<pre>4.16 SKILLS
Skills represent a group of abilities or your mastery of a single ability in Aetherius. (See HELP 4.12)

Much of your life in Imperian will revolve around your skills. Skills are

either sets of abilities or a single ability representing how well you do
something (like dodge arrows and sword blows, for instance). Typing SKILLS will
list which ones you have, and typing HELP <skillname> will give you some more
information on each skill. Furthermore, many skills have anywhere from 20 to 50
abilities within the skill. An ability could be an individual spell, or
something like a particular type of kick or swordstroke.

You'll notice, when you type SKILLS that next to the name of each skill will

grow better at whatever that skill represents. For instance, as you increase
your Philosophy, you will take less and less damage from attacks on your mind
(psionic attacks). The word next to your skill will also change, indicating
your increased mastery of that skill. To see a list of skill ranks, type HELP
SKILLRANKS.

You will notice that when you type SKILLS, mention is made of both skills and

'miniskills'. Miniskills differ from skills only in that they take far fewer

lessons to master (see HELP LESSONS).
Accessing your Skills
To view your skills, type SKILLS.

To view your command of your skills, type LESSONS.

To view the abilities available to you within your skill, type AB <skill> FULL. You will only be able to use those in white for now.

A brief example
IdrasiYouth is a young Idras Predator.

In SKILLS, he will see all of the General skillset and all of the Mini-skills.

In SKILLS, he will also see Predation, Knifeplay, and Beastmastery (which are granted him by virtue of being a Predator).

He then learns 291 lessons in Knifeplay from his Guildmaster. This puts him at 0% Gifted as seen in AB (or 291 lessons as seen in LESSONS).

In AB KNIFEPLAY FULL, he will see that he has access to all skills in Knifeplay up to Slit.

While he improves his mastery of Knifeplay, his damage output from his deadly sitaras will increase.

Once he completely masters Knifeplay (that is Transcendent as seen in AB or 1738 lessons as seen in LESSONS) he will be able to use Bladesurge, the amazing ability that lets him strike four times in a single move when he is threatened.

Skillsets
The General skillsets are available to everyone. They constitute some useful and some useless skills, depending on your profession, your race, and the way you decide to play your character! Of note, Survival is the most important of these skillsets.

The General skillsets include:
* Concoctions
* Engineering
* Evasion
* Perception
* Survival
* Tattoos
* Taming
* Toxins
* Weaponry

The Mini-skills are also available to everyone. They are essentially damage mitigation and when mastered grant you a skill - the best of which comes from Antidotes, the ability to Purge blood, a very useful combat skill.

The Mini skillsets include:
* Antidotes
* Constitution
* Fitness
* Frost
* Galvanism
* Philosophy
* Thermology

Though the general skills that you start off with are useful, it is the
guild-specific skills that make up the core of your character. To gain these
sets of skills, all of which will have many abilities in them, you will need
to join a guild. You may read more about guilds and classes in section 8.0.

In order to see what abilities you have in a skill (if there are, indeed, any
abilities in that particular skill), typing AB <skillname> will let you see
them. After that, typing AB <skillname> <ability name> will give you help,
generally speaking, on that individual ability. In addition, typing in AB
<skillname> FULL, you will be able to see all the abilities in that skillset.
Abilities that you do not have will be listed in red.
