The Awakening was perhaps the most significant event in the history of Imperian, as its impact on the world is lasting and drives much of the conflict beginning in the Second Age and throughout modern times.

914 years after the Age of Humanity began, the single moon of Aetherius inexplicably shattered into three distinct pieces - later called Moradeim, Sukdher, and Aryana - and tore at the fabric of reality itself, releasing a force we now call magick. In the days following the Awakening, many people claimed great powers, including divination, telepathy, and other amazing feats. The Awakening caused a great amount of civil unrest and mortals began to fight and persecute each other in ways the world had never seen before.

In the century following the Awakening, unbeknownst to humans, the beasts of Aetherius were immeasurably transformed and evolved into new creatures - orcs, ogres, goblins, trolls, and giants. Collectively, history would refer to these beasts as the Horde.
