Overwhelmed by the power exhibited by the mortal races of Aetherius, the amassed forces of the Horde and Undead withdrew. The heart of the invasion has been crushed, however, and the world veers away from the edge of destruction. The death of the Gods and the unveiling of the mighty Hammer created by their fallen essence ushers in a new age: The Age of Mortality.

When the Gods died, their essence formed beings of pure energy that became known as entities. Entities form on Aetherius without personalities, memories, or distinct powers, and their primary focus in the early days of the Age of Mortality was to explore the world around them. It just so happened that, at the same time, mortals began to organize themselves around concepts, ideals, and faiths once again. It had been several years since the death of the Gods, but that longing to belong to something bigger than yourself is present in many people, and so cults began to form.

Soon, the Cult of Conquest became the first of the cults to achieve a significant amount of power and prestige in addition to attracting an entity. In the year 6 AM, Zhiash gathered followers of Conquest in the Areish Mountains at the cult's altar. A blood rite was performed, resulting in the transformation of Zhiash into Hastati, the first of the Ascendari.

In the year 6 AM, Zhiash gathered followers of Conquest in the Areish Mountains at the cult's altar. A blood rite was performed, resulting in the transformation of Zhiash into Hastati, the first of the Ascendari.

Cults were energized by this event, each wishing to raise their collective faith and belief to the level in which an entity would join them, too. Soon after Zhiash's transformation, Omyedhi was drawn to the Cult of the Eternal Flame and became Samaos, the Dread Flame. The following year, mortals learned that the entities could consume one another and gain the strength and wisdom of the victim - the entity known as Paesa swallowed up Qinlan and then Ronol, leaving their cults defeated and broken.
Cults were energized by this event, each wishing to raise their collective faith and belief to the level in which an entity would join them - the subsequent decades would be marked by the rise and fall of these entities.

The Cult of the Wild Hunt was the next to achieve the status of Sect, raising Zarah up to Ascendari and becoming Isra, the Wild Huntress. The hungry Paesa was lured by members of the Cult of the Leechwood into the Al'drym Woods in the middle of the year 8 AM, who deceived her with claims of boundless power for her to consume. In reality, they sought the energy for themselves and Paesa was sapped dry by the Leechwood, and the Diabolus named Olanre rose in her place.
New Threats Emerge - Year 2 AM to
A demon named Rishi attempted to lift the Stele from the desert temple to a more prominent place atop Demon's Pass. This attracted the attention of a wizard named Silantor, who desired the power of the Stele - the power to raise the walking dead. Silantor bravely fought with the demon master but was quickly dispatched, but with his dying breath, he whispered a curse and touched the base of the Stele, transforming into a Lich. As the undead began to rise up around the adventurers gathered there, they soon found themselves fighting for their lives. At last, Aleutia, the hero who had so recently been known for wielding the Hammer of the Gods, defeated the Lich Lord with the aid of her allies.

Years would pass before the undead would once again pose a threat to mortals of Aetherius. An unexpected and intense rainstorm flooded the lands, drawing attention to the village of Khous, located beyond the Ik'taru Expanse on the western coast. Undead villagers of a sunken settlement were rising up from their graves, stirred by the sudden rise of the tide. A terrible undead abomination, Lakhild, soon appeared on the coast, but like many creatures to threaten Aetherius, it was quickly slain by a large group of adventurers, with the killing blow being dealt by Gurn.
