While it is unknown how long Vahin has chosen to affect the mortal realms, many stories exist implying He has watched over all races since the first mortal repressed another. Almost all small villages tell tales of some unidentified hero that rescued a "nearby village" from bandits, then left before thanks could be given, or names could be requested. Many variations of the tales exist, instead of villages saved some speak of mysterious benefactors bringing to light an unjust law, or helping bring inspiration to a despairing leader.

— From a scroll describing the realm of Vahin, the Protector, and First Knight

History

His first appearance is thought to be with the Dunestrider, inspiring in Him the holy rage that made Him a legend, leading later to founding the guild of the Justicars. He acted as their Patron for centuries. His more notable followers took the path of Law, and acted as impartial judges for any who would ask, regardless of affiliation or belief. The followers of Vahin could be identified by searching for those that bear His symbols: a lion, a shield, or mace and blade crossed.

During the war against the Demon Gods in the year 678 AD, Vahin fought alongside Illuminas to protect Baar from Azaoz and his generals, Erzabet and Aosoth. He was critically wounded in this battle, but the Demons chose to keep Him alive, claiming He wasn't worthy of their present attention.

While He nursed his wounds, He also sought out an alliance with Cassiopeia, Epiphany, and Asaka. This alliance would be shattered soon after, when Asaka was killed by Azaoz. Unbeknownst to the rest of His alliance, Vahin had also created an alliance with Calix, and during the battle that ensued after Asaka's death, the Protector attempted to spring a trap upon Aosoth and Azaoz, but at first only a parliament of ravens appeared. The Demons mocked Vahin and caused Him to believe He had been betrayed, but Calix soon revealed that the ravens were part of a sneak attack upon Erzabet. Calix used the ravens to distract the Demons as He shot across the battlefield, attacking each of them with a poison-tipped sitara. The small doses of the toxin weren't enough to fatally harm any of the Demon Lords, though, so Calix chose to use what remained of the toxin to brutally attack Erzabet, who became paralyzed and began to die a slow, painful death. Azaoz, devastated by the loss, killed Calix and brought the battle to a swift end.

As Erzabet lay dying, calling out for her mother, Vahin made the decision to give the Demon a merciful death. Consumed by some kind of guilt and overcome with exhaustion, the First Knight took His last breath and then shattered into numerous shards of ice, bringing the alliance of Gods down to just two members - Cassiopeia and Epiphany.
