Professions are where characters will learn the majority of their skills. A profession consists of three separate skillsets. Each skillset contains several individual skills.

Professions

You can see what professions you know and your current ranks in those professions with the PROFESSIONS command.

Characters can be able to learn a profession in one of two ways.

  1. Join a guild which specializes in that profession.
  2. Become the apprentice of a player who has the profession rank of Master.

Once you have earned a profession, you can begin learning within those skillsets. However, should you switch to a different profession, you will forget all the skills you have learned. If you wish to return to that profession at some point in the future, you will want to be certain you have earned the rank of 'Specialist' in that profession.

If you are not in a guild specializing in your current profession, you will have to learn the skillset evenly. (HELP LEARNING)

If you no longer wish to know a profession you can FORGET <profession>. When you forget a profession you will receive either 50%, 90%, or 100% of your lessons back from those skillsets, depending on your rank in that profession. If you wish to switch to a different circle of professions, you will have to forget all learned professions before joining a guild or being apprenticed into another circle.

Profession Ranks

When you first learn a new profession, you will start ranked as a novice in that profession. There are five profession ranks for each profession: Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, Specialist, and Master. Each rank has different requirements and advantages as you progress through them.

Novice

  • All players will start as a Novice in their new profession.
  • A Novice will only have two of the three profession skillsets.
  • A Novice cannot learn past 'Skilled' in any one skill rank.
  • A Novice in a guild will automatically be promoted to Apprentice profession rank and full guild membership when he/she has learned to the Adept skillrank in both skills and has been a member of that guild for 12 hours or more.
  • If a Novice forgets the profession or quits the guild, they will receive 100% of their lessons back.

Apprentice

  • A player advances from Novice to Apprentice in one of two ways.
    1. Learning to the Adept skillrank in both skills
    2. Advancement from novicehood in the guild.
  • An Apprentice will have access to all three profession skillsets.
  • If an apprentice forgets the profession or quits the guild, they will receive 90% of their lessons back.

Journeyman

  • A player advances from Apprentice to Journeyman in one of two ways.
    1. Reaching Guild Rank 3.
    2. Achieve the Expert skillrank in all three profession skillsets.
  • If a Journeyman quits a guild, they will retain the profession.
  • If a Journeyman switches professions, they will retain the skillsets, but be unable to use them. Read HELP SWITCHING PROFESSIONS to learn more about using old profession skills.
  • If a Journeyman forgets the profession they will receive 50% of their lessons back.

Specialist

  • A player advances from Journeyman to Specialist by:
    1. Reaching Guild Rank 5.
    2. Achieve the Fabled skillrank in all three profession skillsets.
  • A Specialist will relearn profession skillsets twice as fast.

Master

  • A player advances from Specialist to Master by:
    1. Achieve the Transcendent skillrank in all three profession skillsets.
  • A master can apprentice players to the profession. For more information read HELP APPRENTICE or HELP MASTER.

Switching Professions

You may switch to any profession you have previously learned at any time. Should you switch professions, you will forget your current profession if you have not earned the rank of Journeyman or you are not currently in a guild that specializes in that profession.

SWITCH PROFESSION <profession> will allow you to change to your previous profession once you AGREE.

It is possible to use a profession that your guild does not specialize in. Before switching to a different profession, be sure to review your guild rules regarding other professions.
