As you train in Evasion, you will learn the art of controlling your prana-musculature in order to avoid physical attacks (such as a sword) or lessen the damage received from a physical attack by partially dodging it and thus taking the wound in a less damaging place.
The amount of damage decrease is dependent on your Dexterity stat and the number of lessons that have been spent on the skill. Being prone or otherwise hindered reduces the damage resistance of Evasion by half.
